About this Event
The Friends of Reading Hospital to Hold First-Ever Half Marathon at Road Run October 16
The Friends of Reading Hospital will host the annual Reading Hospital Road Run on Sunday, October 16, 2016. This year’s unique schedule includes a 1-Mile Fun Run/Fitness Walk, a 5k and a half marathon run -- one of the fastest growing road races in America. This is the first year that a half marathon race will be included as part of the annual event. Each course is mapped around the outer edges of downtown Reading and will begin and end at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Reading on Penn Street. The half marathon course traverses Mt. Penn and passes the Pagoda and Firetower, making it both a scenic and challenging route. There will be a training program available through A Running Start that will help interested runners prepare for the event.
The weekend’s activities include a runner’s expo and dinner at the DoubleTree Hotel on Saturday, October 15. The race itself features instant result timing using the Jaguar disposable chip timing system, cash awards to top half marathon finishers, high-tech wicking shirts (while supplies last), free parking, and a post-race party.
David L. Kline, Executive Director Promotions & Circulation, President WEEU, Reading Eagle, is this year’s honorary chair for the event and Diamond Credit Union will be this year’s Tower Sponsor. All proceeds from the event will benefit projects of The Friends of Reading Hospital, including HeartSAFE Berks County and Partnership for a Healthier Berks County.
Make a weekend of the race by staying at the Doubletree Hotel. We will hold our expo there on Saturday, the shuttle buses will leave from there to take you to the race start on Sunday morning, the race finishes. Can you beat that?
